Education Minister Krista Lynn Howell, Minister of Education introduced proposed amendments in the House of Assembly yesterday that would mean the end of the Newfoundland and Labrador English School District. If passed, amendments to the Schools Act will enable the transition of the Newfoundland and Labrador English School District into the Provincial Government. These changes include dissolving the Newfoundland and Labrador English School District, its operations and successor in law would move to the Crown, updating powers of the Minister to include regulatory authority, and removing reference to a board and replacing it with the Crown, or the department and the conseil scolaire as applicable. These proposed changes support the final stages of the integration process as it moves toward completion by the end of 2023.
