Allison Caines says violence prevention is defined as any work involved in addressing violence in all of its forms.
February is Violence Prevention Month and it’s the perfect opportunity to contribute to the fight against violence and abuse in Newfoundland and Labrador. Allison Caines is the Violence Prevention Coordinator with the Corner Brook Status of Women Council. Speaking on last week’s edition of The Plain Truth on Bayfm, she says violence prevention is defined as any work involved in addressing violence in all of its forms. Caines says there are many key components to violence prevention work but the big one is education and awareness. She says consent conversations with young people and advocacy is also very important, one example being the annual Take Back the Night walk to bring a awareness to the issue of sexual violence. Meanwhile, there will be a bracelet making event at the Corner Brook Women’s centre tomorrow from 2-4 p.m.
