Tammy Priddle says safety is priority at the airport and when staff noticed the bag, security tested it with a swab and it came back as containing an explosive material.

The head of the Deer Lake Airport is thanking the RCMP for a quick response Monday evening when an unattended bag was left at the terminal. CEO Tammy Priddle says safety is priority at the airport and when staff noticed the bag, security tested it with a swab and it came back as containing an explosive material.

The RCMP Explosives Disposal Unit (EDU) were called in to investigate. Priddle says like many times before, it was just a case of someone simply leaving their bag behind. She says airport security are trained to respond and assess a number of scenarios that could happen at an airport. Priddle says the quick response by police meant air travel was not affected but if they weren’t in the area it would have impacted travellers. She is reminding travellers to make sure they don’t leave anything behind.
