About 1400 young athletes competed in the 2026 NL Summer Games held in Corner Brook and Stephenville from August 8th to the 15th.
The 50th anniversary of the NL Summer Games wrapped up in Corner Brook last weekend. The event brought together young athletes from every region to compete, connect, and celebrate the spirit of sport. Games Manager Cassidy Mercer says just like any event, you can plan as much as you want but everything is not going to go 100 percent as planned. She says there was a great group of people who came together to make it happen. Mercer says her favourite part of the event was watching the trophies being handed out during the closing ceremonies. Games Secretary Kara Pye says her favourite part about the games is the kids and hearing them say “thank you.” Pye says the games might be over but there’s work left to do with final reports and getting gear back to SportNL.
