Darren Charters is the city’s director of Community, Engineering, Development and Planning. He says this approval is for mineral use only.

The city of Corner Brook has voted to approve a 1.5km area that is North West from the Lewin Parkway Industrial Park exit and TCH interchange. This would extend quarrying in a rural zone. No comments were received regarding the application for use approval and council voted to allow it during Monday night’s meeting. The applicant would still be required to apply for development approval before operating in the area. Darren Charters is the city’s director of Community, Engineering, Development and Planning. He says this approval is for mineral use only. The project is under a stop work  order from the province and the city for going outside the boundary. Charters says the company will still have to apply for permits and the land. If required, an Environmental assessment may also be needed.
