Corner Brook city council has approved the rezoning of land at 11 O’Connell Drive so a “place of worship” can expand its parking lot. The property is currently split zoned ‘Residential Low Density’ (RLD) and ‘Community Services.’ The motion was brought forward at the public meeting on August 25th, and resulted in a tied vote. Councillor Bill Griffin says the current land zoning will prohibit the expansion of the parking lot. The “place of worship” use is not set out in the RLD use zone tables, which prohibits the proposed parking lot extending into the RLD zone.
Griffin says a public hearing was held by commissioner Mark Mills and he heard concerns and comments from owners of neighboring properties. The comments collectively reflect concerns about land ownership, impacts on property value and neighborhood character, as well as water, snow, and drainage issues, etc.
This was the third and final decision on the proposal.
