There’s nothing more gratifying than gathering and hauling up produce from a garden. After watching and tending to the patch all summer it’s nice to reap the rewards and enjoy fresh veggies. But for the Bay St. George YMCA, Tuesday was a major letdown. Cheryl Johnson is the Operations Director. She checked on their community garden and all the potatoes were taken. Johnson says they felt defeated because the food was being grown to give to the foodbank for Thanksgiving. But sometimes, good things happen. Johnson says they saved what they could and she decided to make a social media post. That’s when the community stepped in to help. When Johnson arrived at work yesterday this morning, she was surprised with donations from the community, including two little boys from a local daycare with a $50 food giftcard. There was also 150 pounds of vegetables waiting at the YMCA when she went to work yesterday.
