Coming up on October 4th, Bayfm will host the annual radiothon in support of the Western Regional Hospital Foundation. One of the departments that will see a few pieces of equipment from funds raised is audiology. Mihoela Foss is the department’s Clinical Lead. She says the Vivosonic Integrity V500 which is an advanced piece of equipment when testing young babies or children with risks of hearing loss. Foss says it’s a wireless piece of equipment and portable, which means they can use it at clinics outside of Corner Brook. It’s an integral part of the Early Hearing Intervention and Detection Program. Foss says the next piece of equipment they’ve asked for can test the hearing of all ages and can also do speech testing. Foss says next, they have asked for equipment to test the middle ear and the fourth piece of equipment is the Dual VR8 System Flat Mount Pro used for children ages 5 months to two years. Foss says with new technology, they can tell if a baby will have permanent hearing loss by the age of two months. .
