Mayor Dean Ball says they met with Kruger officials and there is still a lot of snow still at the Grand Lake Reservoir, which has to be spilled to bring water levels down.
Officials with Deer Lake Power are set to open a gate at Main Dam tomorrow around noon but the Mayor of the town says up to three gates could be open. Dean Ball says they met with Kruger officials and there is still a lot of snow still at the Grand Lake Reservoir, which has to be spilled to bring water levels down. Meanwhile, water levels along the Humber River and Deer Lake are already high prompting a flood watch for the area. Ball says he can’t remember a time when three gates had to be opened.
Once the gate is opened, water will be released into the upper Humber River. Ball says this could have an impact for residents living in low lying areas around the lake and river. Levels are expected to rise and may fluctuate over several days.
Ball says some residents should be prepared to leave their homes, and fire and emergency services are on alert. He says people need to use caution around the riverbank and shorelines.
Ball says everything at this point depends on the weather and updates will be provided.
