This morning at Corner Brook City Hall, the Poppy/Remembrance Proclamation was signed designating the eleven days from November 1 to November 11 as the Remembrance Period. Robert Murphy of the Royal Canadian Legion says today is also the start of their Poppy Campaign and the support is extremely important to get funds for programs offered to veterans.
Volunteers, Legion members and others will be at various locations selling the poppies and speaking on Bayfm, Murphy says the support from the public is phenomenal and everyone has a story.
In Corner Brook, poppies will be sold at bigger stores including Coleman’s, Dominion, Sobey’s, Canadian Tire, and over 100 trays are available at smaller stores and businesses like banks.
