As part of Budget 2026, $21M was announced to improve capacity and access to health care by renovating space at the Corner Brook Community Health Centre. Yesterday, Premier Tony Wakeham says this means 45 new long term beds will be created.
Health and Community Services Minister Joedy Wall says this expansion means people in the western region can access the right care, in the right place and at the right time.
Tara Freake is the vice president and chief operating officer with NL Health Services-western zone. She says in October of last year, 30 LTC beds and 15 transitional care beds were opened there. Freake says since opening, the unit has accepted over 140 admissions and is currently at full capacity. She says food services and a personal laundry will be added at the centre to support a more home like experience for residents. The first 15 beds are due to open next spring and the remaining 30 beds opening in the fall.
