The audience at the Corner Brook Arts and Culture Centre was treated to a free concert last night (Tuesday night) from a band with the Royal Canadian Navy. The Stadacona Band wrapped up their “Turning Tides” tour here with stories and music from a wind ensemble. Grace Baker is the Public Affairs Supervisor with Maritime Forces Atlantic. She says they’re based in Halifax and although the band was here a few years ago, they don’t get to come here as often as they would like. They’re a 35-40 piece professional wind ensemble including classical and jazz musicians, also members of the Royal Canadian Navy.
Baker says they are one of the longest running regular force bands in Canada, celebrating an 85th anniversary this year. Last night’s concert also included music for a new march, written for the Royal Canadian Legion, called “Comrades.”
