A man broke into a pharmacy in St.George’s and tried to get away from the RCMP but Police Service Dog Pezz took “a bite out of crime.” Cpl Jesse O’Donaghey says an alarm went off just before 5 a.m on Saturday ( September 19th) at Pharmasave. Officers noticed damage to an exterior wall and saw a suspect inside who failed to comply with police commands to exit the business.
RCMP Police Dog Services (PDS) responded to the scene to assist. As officers gained entry inside the business to make an arrest, the suspect fled on foot from another entry point. PSD Pezz and his handler established a track and apprehended the suspect following a short foot pursuit.
The suspect, who was identified as Tyrone Lasaga, 29, was treated at hospital then taken to jail.
O’Donaghey says Police Service Dogs are a big asset and RCMP Newfoundland and Labrador thanks PSD Pezz and his handler for their dedicated service, solving local crimes in Stephenville and the surrounding area.
Meanwhile, the investigation is continuing and further charges are possible.
