A couple of communities in the Bay St. George area are getting funding for projects under the Multi-Materials Stewardship Board’s Community Waste Diversion and Solid Waste Management Innovation Funds. The Flat Bay Band Inc. is getting $50K to support the creative reuse of surplus, leftover and recovered building materials to create furniture, finishes and amenities in the community. Over $5k is going to Port au Port East for a community compost program . In total, over $300,000 has been provided to 13 projects for sustainable waste management. Meanwhile, the Community Waste Diversion Fund provides up to $25K for projects that keep more waste from landfills. Applications are now open and being accepted until November 13th. Applications for the Solid Waste Management Innovation Fund can be submitted at any time throughout the year.
