The city of Corner Brook awarded several contracts totalling over a million dollars for water treatment chemicals during this week’s public meeting. Close to $155K USD will be spent on a supplier for phosphates for corrosion control for a 12 month term. The city’s Assistant Director of Engineering, Andrew Miller says they’ve been using this since 2015 and its main purpose is to protect the inside layer of piping, which has shown significant ability and protects it from corrosion and water line breaks
The price for these phosphates has gone up by close to 44K since last year and Miller spoke about how raw products for suppliers have gone up and this increase is passed on to the consumer.
550 tonnes of polyaluminium chloride will cost the city more than $796K. Miller says the cost could drop if less water is used, meaning less has to be treated. Slightly more than $147K was approved for the purchase of soda ash
