It’s Fire Prevention Week and this year’s theme is “Charge into Fire Safety™: Safe Charging Is a Superpower.” On Bayfm, Captain Phillip Brinston of the Corner Brook Fire Department spoke about the focus which is lithium batteries. Phones, laptops, e-bikes, scooters, tools and even toys run on lithium-ion batteries. When they’re damaged or charged the wrong way, they can overheat, catch fire or even explode.
Brinston says never charge a device on a soft surface, like a bed, and don’t use cheap chargers. There will be an Open House & BBQ at Central Station on Saturday, October 10, from 1 to 4 p.m.
