Wildlife officers are investigating a case of moose poaching in the Stephenville area and are looking for the public’s help. The Resource Enforcement Division of the Department of Forestry, Agriculture and Lands is seeking information related to an incident that occurred on Camp 185 Resource Road. The road is located off the Trans-Canada Highway approximately five kilometers east of the intersection with Route 460 (White’s Road). Remains of a female adult moose were found on the resource road during the morning of September 24th. It is an offence to willfully or intentionally allow the flesh of wildlife that has been taken or killed for food to be destroyed, wasted, or spoiled. It can carry a fine of not less than $500, up to a maximum of $25,000, and even a prison term of up to three months.
Resource Enforcement Division is asking anyone with information that may assist the investigation to call 709-649-5268 or make an anonymous report via the 24/7 Poaching Line at 1-877-820-0999. Reports can also be submitted anonymously at www.stoppoaching.ca.
