A $ 10M federal, provincial and private investment was announced today for a business in St. Lawrence with the goal of hosting Canada’s first commercial space launch vehicles. NordSpace’s Atlantic Spaceport Complex (ASX) will use the money to strengthen Atlantic Canada’s role in a global space economy, which is expected to reach $2 trillion by 2040. Earlier this year, the Department of National Defence approved $8.3 million over three years to ASX, one of only three Canadian companies selected. The company is building Canada’s first orbital-class launch vehicle, Tundra, and along technologies to support commercial, scientific and defence-related missions. Today’s investment will create 30 high-skilled jobs in rural Newfoundland and Labrador by 2028, with possibly more than 200 jobs by 2035. There will also be employment opportunities in construction, transportation, professional services and tourism. Also earlier this year, the feds announced a $200-million investment supporting Spaceport Nova Scotia.
