World Energy GH2’s plans to erect wind turbines to generate hydrogen for export has finally received the green light from government. A review has been completed of the Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) submitted on August 22nd and the amendment submitted on January 30th. Environment Minister Bernard Davis has determined that the EIS and Amendment comply with Part 10 of the Environmental Protection Act and the EIS guidelines and require no further work. The Lieutenant-Governor in Council has released the Port au Port-Stephenville Wind Power and Hydrogen Generation Project (Project Nujio’qonik GH2) from further environmental assessment, subject to the terms and conditions posted. This will be Canada’s first commercial green hydrogen/ammonia producer created from 3+ GW of renewable electricity through wind projects in one of the world’s best wind resource regions. Plans include the delivery of approximately 250,000 tons/year of hydrogen.
