RCMP is asking motorists to drive with caution on our highways.
FINAL UPDATE; (January 20, 1:35 p.m.) Bay St. George RCMP confirms that the Trans-Canada Highway west of Route 460 has fully reopened to traffic in both directions.
RCMP Newfoundland and Labrador thanks motorists for their patience and cooperation, and encourages continued caution on our roadways.
UPDATE: (January 20, 11:50 a.m): One lane of the Trans-Canada Highway has reopened to alternating traffic. Motorists should expect delays. Please drive slowly and with extreme caution through this area, and obey all directions from police and other responders. Further updates will be provided as they become available.
EARLIER STORY: Bay St. George RCMP advises motorists that emergency crews are on scene of a two-vehicle collision - involving a commercial tractor trailer unit and a pickup truck – on the Trans-Canada Highway, about 2 km west of White’s Road (Route 460).
As a result of a significant amount of diesel fuel and debris on the highway, the TCH is impassable at this time.
Motorists should expect delays and are asked to drive with extreme caution and obey all directions from first responders at the scene.
