Steve Crocker shared that it was a “pivotal year for tourism and we have officially reached recovery in terms of surpassing the pre-pandemic visitation numbers.
The province’s Tourism Minister, Steve Crocker, recently gave an update on efforts to improve air access. In the House of Assembly yesterday, Crocker shared that it was a “pivotal year for tourism and we have officially reached recovery in terms of surpassing the pre-pandemic visitation numbers. This year, air services have increased significantly with a 21 per cent capacity boost compared to 2023. Inbound non-stop air capacity numbers have consistently surpassed 2019 levels for several months. Crocker also met with provincial tourism leaders for the biannual Tourism Leadership Summit recently. Meanwhile, WestJet’s London-Gatwick flight for the 2024 season has concluded. In November of last year, the airline started a direct flight from St. John’s to London’s Gatwick Airport. Preliminary estimates indicate that each flight operated at greater than 80 per cent capacity.
