Rugby continues in Corner Brook this morning at the Corner Brook High Field and medals games will take place there on Saturday.

It’s been more than a quarter of a century that Rugby has been part of the NL Games, but the sport is back this year as Corner Brook hosts the NL Summer Games. The Rugby Sevens started yesterday and include male and female.  Steve Best is a Convener at the Games and says Rugby hasn’t been a part of the Games in about three decades.

Morgan Lovell is the Technical Director with the NL Rugby Union. He’s excited to see the athletes play rugby but also to see the smiles on faces of the hosts to see this through to fruition.

Rugby is the legacy sport of the NL Summer Games and that means the host team, here in Corner Brook, gets some rugby related equipment. Best says these rugby uprights can also be used in soccer.  Meanwhile, Lovell says a goal for the union is to continue to grow rugby in some of the non-traditional areas in NL and Corner Brook is a great model.
