The city of Corner Brook is clarifying some information about the new recreation centre after a Facebook post from 2021 has resurfaced. The project is now over 90% finished, with most of the drywall installed and painting and plastering is well underway. All of the floor tiles are nearly down, and work is ongoing to install the pool’s mechanical equipment along with ventilation ducting. On the exterior, the overall façade and walkways are nearly done. The city expected to get the keys within the next few months and plan to look open later this year. The new regional Recreation Centre will include a 6 lane 25 m competition pool, full size dividable gymnasium and multi-purpose room, full service daycare, as well as new change rooms, fully accessible leisure pool, therapy pool, waterslide and a lazy river feature within the leisure pool. There will be wet and dry saunas, a fitness centre and a lounge area linking all of the facilities.
