During his time with the Coast Guard, Bruce English says he’s never worked on a project of this magnitude.

The Canadian Coast Guard has been involved since the MSC Baltic III ran aground in Cedar Cove in February of last year. On Friday, the wreck removal company, Resolve Marine gave an update on work to date and what to expect in the coming weeks. The Coast Guard’s Bruce English says it’s been a long road but thankfully, the environment has not been affected. He says salvaged material will be shipped by truck and barge to the Port of Stephenville. English says there are upwards of 100 people working 24-7 on the vessel’s removal.

Meanwhile, during his time with the Coast Guard, English says he’s never worked on a project of this magnitude. There is still one container onboard, which is 40 feet long and contains newsprint. English says it is too damaged from water and will be salvaged with the vessel. He says there are some contaminants remaining such as residual fuels, tanks and lines.
