An important figure in radio passed away over the weekend. Alex J. Walling founded CKWK 1340AM in Corner Brook which later became CKXX (Kixx Country) then CKXX-FM (K-Rock), in 1984. Walling went on to start a FM station in Liverpool, Nova Scotia and a broadcast journalism school in Halifax known as the Atlantic Media Institute. Originally from Quebec City, Walling started his career at a newspaper there at the age of 17. He had spent over 50 years as a broadcaster.
Walling was 77.
