Housing Minister Joedy Wall says this can’t happen again, this report was full with very serious recommendations and we have to make sure the people we serve through housing are served well.
Members in the House of Assembly held a special debate on housing yesterday afternoon in light of a recent report from the Auditor General. On March 18th, Denise Hanrahan tabled the report, which found that since 2021, the waitlist for housing grew 71 percent but inventory dropped by 57 units. Housing Minister Joedy Wall spoke to the media prior to yesterday’s debate saying everything that was outlined in the AG’s report has to be corrected. He says this can’t happen again and this report was full with very serious recommendations, and we have to make sure the people we serve through housing are served well.
Wall says a full time CEO will be hired, there will be a policy review, upgrades to the system, hiring more staff, and it all comes down to the budget which will unfold in the next month or so. Wall says every item in the AG’s report will be worked on and completed.
