A happy ending to the search for a snowmobiler who had an accident in an area near Humber Valley Resort on the weekend. 17 members of the Bay of Islands Volunteer Search and Rescue sprang into action shortly after 2 p.m. on Saturday. Treasurer Krista Tarbett was there and she says they brought snowmobiles, a rescue boggan, and first aid equipment. Members found the subject in a warm-up shelter being tended to members of the public and friends and family on scene.
Tarbett says members provided first aid, stabilized his injuries and brought him to an ambulance to be taken to hospital. She says their new rescue boggan was made possible by a partnership to fundraise with the Western Snow Riders. Tarbett says it was about 11kms to get him to the ambulance.
Meanwhile, she says anyone heading into the backcountry should leave a trip plan with someone, be mindful of the weather, and wear the best protective equipment.
