UPDATE: Due to bridge damage caused by the earlier motor vehicle collision, the Trans-Canada Highway is expected to remain closed in both directions for an extended period. Police expect the highway will not reopen until tomorrow (January 20) at the earliest. Please continue to use Routes 230 and 233 to bypass this area. Police are asking all motorists to exercise caution and patience while using this detour.
EARLIER STORY: TRAFFIC ADVISORY: The Trans-Canada Highway is currently closed in both directions west of Clarenville near Thorburn Lake, due to a crash involving a tractor trailer.
A detour is available. Westbound motorists can exit the TCH at Route 230 (Bonavista Highway) and use Route 233 through Musgravetown. Eastbound motorists can exit at Route 233, and use Route 230 to rejoin the TCH.
Please use caution and patience and obey all directions from first responders.

Meanwhile, RCMP had to close sections of the Trans Canada Highway last week after two separate collisions involving tractor trailers. Cpl Jesse O’Donaghey says on Wednesday, traffic was stopped in both directions after a two vehicle crash west of the weigh scales near Grand Falls-Windsor. On Friday, the eastbound lane of TCH near Brigus Junction was closed due to a crash involving a tractor trailer. O’Donaghey says there were no injuries.
