Police closed a section of the TCH today to help with the search.
RCMP say a search is continuing for an elderly man who has been missing since late last night in the area of Hawk’s Hill, which is located near the Trans-Canada Highway (TCH) in the vicinity of the St. John’s Rod and Gun Club. Shortly after 10:30 p.m. last night (June 5, 2023) Holyrood RCMP received the report indicating that the 76-year-old man and a family member were fishing in a pond in the area. Due to the extreme foggy conditions, the two individuals became displaced from one another.
Ground search efforts began last night and continued today involving searchers from Central Avalon Ground Search and Rescue, Avalon North Wolverines and the Rovers Search and Rescue. This afternoon, additional searchers from Triple Bay Eagles Ground Search and Rescue attended the scene to assist in the search. An aerial search by the Joint Rescue Co-ordination Centre was attempted but was hampered by heavy fog.
The search for the missing man is continuing at this time.
