Police also found cocaine, methamphetamine tablets, crystal meth, morphine pills, heroin, LSD, brass knuckles and $10,000.
For the first time in this province’s history, RCMP have found Nitazine pills, which is a highly toxic synthetic opioid about 25 times more potent than fentanyl. Dubbed “Project Beehive,” Superintendent Stephane Thoms says seventeen people between the ages of 21-52 from parts of Labrador are being charged. Eight people are still wanted on arrest warrants. The investigation started eleven months ago and included searches on three homes in Happy Valley-Goose Bay and one in Sheshatshiu. Police found cocaine, methamphetamine tablets, crystal meth, morphine pills, heroin, LSD, brass knuckles and $10,000. Thoms says a lot of the cocaine coming into Labrador is through Quebec and is often “stepped on” to increase the amount. He says cocaine coming into NL now is in the high nineties for purity. According to the RCMP, one of the challenges with big investigations like this is having enough resources to do the job. Commanding Officer Pat Cahill says geography is an issue here with the RCMP covering 80 percent of the land but only half the population. Meanwhile, RCMP are advising people to not consume these pills and to contact local police. This investigation is continuing and more charges could be laid against more people.
