In 2023, Newfoundland and Labrador exported approximately $4.5 billion of goods to the United States, which represented 37 per cent of the province’s total exports.

24 hours after US President Trump tweeted about tariffs on Canadian goods Premier Andrew Furey held 6 round table discussions with a cross section of communities, industries, and the labour movement on this threat and the impact here. Furey says there’s a strong united team NL approach to a united team Canada approach with an informed response. Government is also introducing a new brand to help build awareness of Newfoundland and Labrador and Canadian products on the local and global stage. Furey says a key message is to encourage residents to buy and support local. In 2023, Newfoundland and Labrador exported approximately $4.5 billion of goods to the United States, which represented 37 per cent of the province’s total exports. Of the seafood harvested in Newfoundland and Labrador, 60-80 per cent is exported to the United States. In Newfoundland and Labrador, there are between 10,000-20,000 jobs at risk if President Trump follows through on his talk of tariffs.
