Denise Hanrahan highlighted that only 9 percent of the province’s 436 communities have a emergency valid plan.
Government has been quick to respond to two reports table by the Auditor General yesterday. Denise Hanrahan highlighted that only 9 percent of the province’s 436 communities have a valid emergency plan. Last year’s wildfires started around this time, and Forestry, Agriculture and Lands Minister Pleaman Forsey told reporters this morning that plans and resources will be in place for safer communities. The AG also did an audit on fraud that found more than half of government entities did not complete a risk assessment last year and possible incidents of fraud were not consistently reported, including MUN, NLhealth Services and NLHydro. Finance Minister Craig Pardy told reporters it is now mandatory for government’s 34 entities to have updated fraud policies, checks and training. Both Ministers committed to follow up on the AG’s recommendations.
