WRWM’s Lynn Howse says containers have to be clean, but labels can stay on.
The folks at Western Regional Waste Management get a lot of calls about recycling, like exactly what can be put into that blue bag before it hits the landfill. On Bayfm’s Trash Talk with Lenny Benoit, one of the questions was whether labels should be removed. WRWM’s Lynn Howse says containers have to be clean, but labels can stay on.
Another question dealt with food storage containers. Howse says it depends on the type but clam shells or containers stamped with a 1, 2or 5 are recyclable.
For anyone wondering what to do with an old turkey roasting pan, Howse says they can be recycled with other metals dropped off at a transfer station but cannot go in the blue bag.
Meanwhile, the winter weather is sticking around but Howse says for those thinking about disposing of heaters, they can also be dropped off.
Sunday dinners in NL often include salt beef and Howse says a recent question is what to do with the tub when finished. She says rinse them out and put them in the blue bag.
Howse says take out coffee cups, like Tim Hortons, are recyclable in other programs but can’t be done here….just yet. However, she says if the lids contain the numbers 1, 2 or 5 they can be recycled.
