There’s a petition circulating concerning high water levels in the Howley area as a result of Kruger Inc. spilling water from Grand Lake, so electricity can still be produced at Deer Lake Power. In a facebook post by the Howley Tourist Lodge, the petition can be viewed through a link. The business states this “has effectively cut off all traffic on the trans Canada trail for weeks, including both recent long weekends, during a very short season to do business.” The post says they’ve spoken with politicians, tourism development, other businesses and local user groups during both spilling events this year but access is still not permitted. They’re asking people to sign the petition to allow the public to gain access across the top of the dam which will restore T'railway use east and west between the towns of Howley and Deer Lake.
