Corner Brook Artist Jackie Alcock has been rug hooking for the past 16 years. She says this is something the Guild does every year but a first for Corner Brook and special since the Guild is celebrating a 30th anniversary next year.
For the first time ever, the Rug Hooking Guild of Newfoundland and Labrador will meet in Corner Brook this week. The guild will host their annual rug hooking school at the Arts and Science building at Grenfell Campus starting this Thursday and running until Sunday. People will have a chance to see rug hookers in action during a class in room AS2306. Friday from 8am to noon and Saturday from 1-4 p.m., the Guild will host an open house in room AS2011. Viewers will get a chance to see the many rugs in their Art Show. Well known Corner Brook Artist Jackie Alcock has been rug hooking for the past 16 years. Alcock says rug hooking is becoming more popular even though it was dying out. The Guild started with 5 or 6 women and now has groups across the province with certified teachers. There will be over 200 rugs on display at this event.
