Langdon says they need to see some clear cut strategies on how to fill 400 new teaching positions, the recruitment and retention piece has to be expanded and finally some part time teachers who have been struggling can now get full time work.

As the current president at the helm of the teachers union prepares to hand the reins over to a new president, Trent Langdon is reflecting on the past term. 200 members of the NLTA are in St.John’s for their annual biennial meeting. Langdon says there’s been a lot of work done over the past four years. He says it’s been a culmination of bringing the issues teachers face on the ground to government and a lot of decisions will be made at this meeting. Langdon says  members will debate and vote on resolutions this week and determine what issues will be as they move forward.

Government announced 400 new teachers in Budget 2025 and Langdon says he’s never seen such an investment in education. Langdon says they need to see some clear cut strategies on how to fill those positions, the recruitment and retention piece has to be expanded and finally some part time teachers who have been struggling can now get full time work.
