Barry Petten says some members have even noted that under the proposed agreement, they would be paid $25,000 less when compared to similar groups.
Opposition Health Shadow Barry Petten is adding his voice to concerns raised by the Association of Allied Health Professionals (AAHP) about the lack of respect for these critical healthcare staff. Talks between the AAHP and government have broken down leaving the union in a strike position. Petten says some members have even noted that under the proposed agreement, they would be paid $25,000 less when compared to similar groups. He says with the new Western Regional Memorial Hospital slated to open later this year and the new Mental Health & Addictions Facility opening in 2025, Petten wonders what message this sends to Allied Health Professionals as government works to staff these new facilities. Petten says the number one issue in health care is resources and this will have a big impact on getting staff at the new Western Memorial Regional Hospital.
