In 2021, a study was done on Corner Brook City Transit. There are two fixed routes and some users had to walk about 2 kms to catch a ride. Starting tomorrow, expanded hours for evenings and weekends services will be available as part of a new on-demand and accessible service. Assistant Director Aaron O’Brien provided a presentation on transit plans at the last public council meeting. He says they found that rush hour ridership was more than the buses could handle and the trend continues with this year headed to be the biggest one yet for ridership. He says users reported difficulty in finding bus stops, the timing was an issue, it took an hour to get to a destination and that the system was not efficient.

A consultant was hired to look at bust stops and found 66  percent of them are not accessible, 18 percent are partially accessible and only 16 percent are accessible. O’Brien says only a small percentage of riders need accessibility and service for evenings and weekends was in big demand.

The on-demand transit is a shared ride service whereby users book their ride but it doesn’t mean a direct route with others being picked up along the way. This extends hours Monday to Friday 6-11 p.m. and weekends from 9-5 p.m.  Rides can be booked by going to www.blaisetransit.com or by calling 709-289-3124.
