Public Works dug up the broken 62 inch diameter pipe and stabilized the area a couple of weeks ago
It will be another couple of weeks before the sinkhole in front of BayFM gets fixed. A circular area started to sink about 2 weeks ago and the city had to stabilize the area. Corner Brook Mayor Jim Parsons says Public Works dug up the broken 62 inch diameter pipe. "It’s been stabilized so we can water through and we are working on exactly how to get the work done now,” he says. “It’s not a complicated job but it’s big and we also want to inspect the area to look for failures.” The Mayor says the hope is to have it all sorted in a couple of weeks. The trail is still blocked off in this area.
Meanwhile, Mayor Parsons says work in the Mt. Bernard area is coming along nicely. "I would imagine the Wellington intersection will open soon and it’s moving along,” he says. “It’s a big project with a lot of old infrastructure putting this in for the new hospital and residents in the area.” Mayor Parsons says as the contractor moves, other sections will be opened.
