Coastal Tire Recycling, the province’s new tire recycling facility, is located in Conception Bay South.

Government has officially opened Coastal Tire Recycling, the province’s new tire recycling facility, located in Conception Bay South. The Multi Materials Stewardship Board  contracted Halifax C&D Recycling in 2022, to create a new facility that would recycle used tires into tire derived aggregate. The new facility will recycle approximately 500,000 tires annually, with the capacity to process up to 700 tires an hour. Tire derived aggregate is made by mechanically shredding scrap tires. It is used in a broad range of civil engineering, the majority of which occurs in the construction industry for applications such as lightweight fill, drainage and thermal insulation for backfilling.  This new in-province solution will be beneficial to the environment, helping reduce greenhouse gas emissions associated with transporting tires to out of province markets.
