Of the 800 boys from Newfoundland who went over the top of Beaumont Hamel, only 68 answered roll call the next morning.
An on again off again musician has produced a very touching song in honour of Remembrance Day. Jason Gill has a couple of albums out and is working on a third. He says he wrote, recorded and produced a video as a tribute to Newfoundlanders who lost their lives, namely members of the Royal Newfoundland Regiment on July 1st, 1916. “I wanted to do research and a tribute to Newfoundland soldiers,” he says. “I had to make sure it was accurate.”
Of the 800 boys from Newfoundland who went over the top of Beaumont Hamel, only 68 answered roll call the next morning. Gill’s song and video can be seen on Youtube. It’s called, “When we were only boys.”
