A Corner Brook war veteran is encouraging people to come out on November 8th to recognize National Indigenous Veterans Day. Greg Janes says it will get underway 10:30 a.m. at the cenotaph near city hall. Janes says this will be the first time for such an event in Corner Brook. He says indigenous veterans suffered through a of discrimination. Janes says 1997 was the first year indigenous veterans could lay a wreath during Remembrance Day events. He says First Nations people wanted to protect Canada so they signed up. Janes says you don’t have to be indigenous to attend the event, which will be followed by a social at the Royal Canadian Legion. For more information contact Greg at 902-220-4734
