Regular classes resume today for students at Grenfell Campus.
The union representing professors at Grenfell Campus believes this might be a tough day at the facility. A cyber attack hit on December 29th and pushed the start of in person classes until today. MUNFA President Dr. Josh Lapawsky, says professors were required to pass in devices provided by MUN which likely contains teachings and research. He says professors are allowed to use their own personal devices, but not to transfer any files. Lapawsky says it will be a bumpy process and faculty have not been involved in any decision making at this point. He says students taking some courses like computer science or digital art cannot do this without the internet. Lapawsky is interested in hearing what caused this and who has been affected. He says he wouldn’t be surprised if the final report shows budget cuts did have an impact on IT security.
