The Home Repair Program and the Home Energy Savings Program will be combined to eliminate overlap.
Government is doubling the amount of funding available for homeowner support programs and making it easier for low-income people to get repairs done to their homes. At an announcement on Friday, Minister of Housing, Joedy Wall, spoke about how the Home Repair Program and the Home Energy Savings Program will be combined to eliminate overlap. This includes doubling the forgivable loan available for repairs, from $5,000 to $10,000 (from $6,500 to $13,000 in Labrador).
The lifetime maximum amount of funding that homeowners can get from the program, is going up from $12,500 to $30,000. Also, the wait time to reapply is dropping from 7 to 5 years and inspection requirements are being removed.
Seniors Minister Craig Pardy says these changes will apply to those in rural areas more than metro. Kimberly Leonard, the CEO of Seniors NL, says this will help more seniors get help to stay in their own homes. The changes will take effect this fall.
