Two young drivers have their licenses suspended and vehicles impounded after Bay St. George RCMP caught them doing more than double the posted speed limit. Cpl Jesse O’Donaghey says it happened in the Stephenville area last week. Just after 9:00 p.m. on May 6, an officer on patrol observed a driver operating their vehicle at 92 km/hr on Carolina Avenue, where the posted speed limit is 40 km/hr. The 17-year-old male driver was ticketed. Then, shortly before midnight, another driver was caught speeding on Route 460 near Noel’s Pond in Stephenville. Police on patrol ticketed the 22-year-old male driver. O’Donaghey says penalties like fines, license suspensions, and losing your vehicle are all very possible when you speed – but in some cases, your speeding could cause life-altering injuries or cost someone their life.
