There’s an event at Jubilee Field in Corner Brook this evening to honour a man who gave so much of his time and energy to the sport of baseball. The minor baseball field at Jubilee Field will be named, “The Robbie” after Rob Myrden, a coach of more than 40 years who could call every kid by name. On Bayfm this morning, Greg Taffe and Dave Mardell spoke about the legend known as Robbie. Taffe is a lifelong friend of Robbie and says for the committee, it was an easy idea to move forward and the support for it was there. Myrden passed away in January and Mardell says his impact was larger than life in other ways too. He says at his celebration of life, a gentleman said he was there because Robbie was his grandmother’s mailman and made her day everyday. Starting 8 o’clock this evening at Jubilee Field a new sign will be unveiled and Robbie Myrden will always have a place there in the baseball field. Tonight’s event will also include a BBQ.
