Tourism, Culture, Arts and Recreation Minister Andrea Barbour made the announcement at the Corner Brook Tennis club yesterday and says funding will support a range of initiatives that strengthens our sports system with the impact being felt by 53 sports organizations as well as more than 60,000 people. Barbour says the money will assist Sport NL in day to day operations, support athletes, coaches as well as grant programs like KidSport NL, a national championship travel subsidy program. It will create opportunities for women and girls and those with disabilities, as well as ongoing participation at the Canada Games, and key programs such as KidSportNL and the National Championship Travel Subsidy. Darren Colbourne is on the board of Sport NL and says this investment supports a broad range of initiatives that help communities thrive and creates more sport opportunities. The investment will also help attract major amateur sporting events to the province and support the delivery of the annual Sport NL Summit on Nov. 14th in St. John’s.
