Byrne says PEI gets $90,000 per refugee while the Association for New Canadians here only gets $9,000 and that must change.

Immigration, Population, Growth and Skills Minister Gerry Byrne is off to Toronto for meeting with his federal counterparts. Byrne says our population growth is largely in part due to getting people to move home but people from all over the world who are choosing to move here are making a difference. He says our population has grown by 12,000 people in the past couple of years. Byrne says jobs are unfilled, there are labour market issues, and we have employers looking for people to fill jobs which can  be filled by immigrants. He says Newfoundland and Labrador is getting shortchanged by the Federal Government. Byrne says PEI gets $90,000 per refugee while the Association for New Canadians here only gets $9,000 and that must change. Also, Byrne says there is no Immigration and Refugee Citizenship Canada (IRCC) presence in this province. He says while we are growing our population the Feds need to be a fair partner.
