Regional Mental Health Promotion Consultant Tara Walsh says for anyone experiencing mental health concerns they need to know they are not alone and services are available.
Since starting in 2010, the annual Bell Let's Talk Day has raised over $194M for mental health initiatives across the country. Last Wednesday was the 16th day dedicated to mental health awareness, acceptance and action. Tara Walsh is a Regional Mental Health Promotion Consultant with Mental Health and Addictions-Western Zone. She says for anyone experiencing mental health concerns they need to know they are not alone and services are available. Call the Mental Health Crisis Line at 811, call or visit Doorways at your local Mental Health & Addictions Office or visit nl.bridgethegapp.ca,
Walsh says there are ways to promote your own mental health such as taking the time to participate in activities that bring you joy or a sense of calm, reach out to others, and know your own feelings. She says events like “Bell Let’s Talk Day” really start those important conversations about mental health, providing an opportunity to educate, raise awareness, promote understanding and help reduce stigma.
