Over the last year, BOISAR members contributed a TOTAL of 16,135 person hours which equals 403 – 40 hr work weeks.
For 40 years now, members of the Bay of Islands Volunteer Search and Rescue have been springing into action at any hour and sometimes for many days, helping people in this area. It’s Volunteer Week and a perfect opportunity to highlight the work these volunteers do. Stephen Decker has been a member for about 15 years and is the Assistant Coordinator for Fundraising. He says over the last year, BOISAR members contributed a TOTAL of 16,135 person hours which equals 403 – 40 hr work weeks. This includes search and rescue deployments: 1,691.50 person hours (equals 42 - 40 hr work weeks), training: 2,406 person hours (equals 60 - 40 hr work weeks), community events: 1,379 person hours (equals 34 – 40 work weeks), fundraising: 353 person hours, equipment maintenance: 287 person hours, meetings, administration and on call for storm events.
There are 50 members with BOISAR and Decker says recruitment is on hold right now so they can develop training and skills. He says they are thankful for volunteers but also for their supporters, those family members and friends who take care of things at home.
Tune into Bayfm for the second annual Radiothon in support of BOISAR on June 20th.
